Long Raindrops Pattern

This stitch pattern is so fun and so easy to do. Much like any other pattern, long raindrops uses an alternation between knit and purl stitches; this makes it easy for beginners to venture out of their comfort zone without really having to. The only skill this pattern requires that is different from the basic knit or purl is to be able to keep track of a pattern.

First Step: Choose Your Dimensions

Like any other project, you will need to plan your dimensions ahead of time. This pattern requires you to cast on in multiples of two, which makes it much easier to play around with the width of your project. Likewise, this pattern works in groups of eight rows so account for that in terms of the length of your project. Remember to account for your needle and yarn size when planning your dimensions!

Second Step: Cast On

You’ll want to cast on normally, as you would any other project. Make sure to count your stitches as you cast on so you can get your desired project width and complete the stitch pattern effectively. Remember that this pattern requires you to cast on in multiples of two!

Third Step: Familiarize Yourself With the Pattern & Get Started

LONG RAIN DROPS.

This pattern will produce a project similar to the image pictured right and the header image above. You will start this project by casting on in multiples of two. Your first four rows will alternate from one knit stitch to one purl stitch until you complete the row. Likewise, your last four rows will alternate from one purl stitch to one knit stitch until you complete the row. You will continue by following along with the pattern pulled from studioknitsf.com, keeping in mind that K = knit and P = purl. The left pattern for straight needles and the right pattern is for circular needles.

I love introducing this pattern to beginners because it creates such a pleasing product with very little confusion or room for error. The pattern is so easy to memorize, making this pattern great for multitasking while your favorite Netflix series is on in the background.
