I just finished Burnt Sugar and I am honestly speechless. I’m not sure how I expected the novel to end, but the downfall of Antara due to her own self-sabotaging tendencies and the anxieties surrounding the relationship she has with her mother took a turn I wasn’t expecting. As the ending unfolded, I couldn’t help but wonder if Tara really was sick.. In the beginning, I almost deemed everyone paranoid for not truly believing that Tara was ill. However, this ending scene really made me question her illness. Was she really sick and confused, or was she punishing her daughter for her affair with her previous lover? Was this her final attempt at seeking revenge? I loved the way this ended because it left it entirely up to the reader’s interpretation and it almost felt psychologically thrilling.
